Gozo

The Maltese archipelago lies at the centre of the Mediterranean, Malta being 93km south of Sicily and 288km north of Africa. The archipelago consists of three islands: Malta, Gozo, and Comino with a total population of 400,000 inhabitants.

From the natural sights, picturesque beaches and caves to the oldest temples in the world, Gozo has a long history to offer. Among the places worth visiting there are the Gozo Museum, the Gozo Crafts Centre and the Citadel/Gran Castello in Victoria, the capital of the island. Consisting of a restored Norman house, cathedral and bastions and offering breathtaking views, The citadel is definitely a must-see.

Some of Gozo’s natural attractions include a pretty Xlendi Bay (on the western coast), Ramla Bay and the reputed Calypso Cave (situated near the red-sand Ramla Bay). Near Xaghra there are many places to see: two Ggantija Temples (1 000 years older than the Pyramids) and the Alabaster Caves (stalactite and stalagmite caves).

The island is full of restaurants and cafes which offer good, Mediterranean meals as well as traditional Maltese pastizzi and rabbit stew.

Nadur

Nadur, called the village of the rising sun, is spread over a plateau some 152 metres above the sea level in
the northeast part of Gozo. Nestled between the villages of Qala, Ghajnsielem, and Xaghra, Nadur has a most appropriate name, as it means to âśkeep guard”. Nadur also holds specific events that became a landmark of Gozo’s calendar.

Some of them are:
The Nadur Carnival, being themed with satire, has grown into an event which is attended by a large amount of people. The Wine Festival – 3 days of local wine tasting and entertainment in September;
The Christmas market – an attraction in itself which is popular in a number of European cities, and now also in Nadur with a Maltese twist.

Malta International Fireworks Festival held in April in various places in Malta and Gozo, will give you a genuine Maltese festive experience.
